Kinjal Gavtar

Centre for Learning Assistance

______

The Center for Learning Assistance, an initiative by Hariraj Charitable Trust, aims to improve children’s educational levels and foster their practical development. This program started in 2020 during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic with the goal of supporting children’s education. I, Nensy Gangadiya, have been serving as the centre assistant, dedicating my efforts to nurturing the potential of the children in our community.

For the academic year 2024-25, like every year, we initiated the process by meeting the parents of prospective students to understand their backgrounds and expectations. A baseline assessment was conducted for each child to gauge their current academic level. Gavtar Kinjal was one such student whose parents expressed a keen interest in enrolling her at our centre. After detailed discussions and assessments, she was enrolled, and she herself was very excited and happy about joining the center. we began her educational journey with a plan designed to address her unique needs.

Kinjal’s baseline assessment revealed her need for foundational learning in both basic language and maths. Hence, we started her journey with basic concepts such as: gujarati alphabets, simple words, ABCs, and numbers. The primary goal was to create a fear-free environment where she could learn something new outside of school. We started with a basic curriculum and used games, activities, and TLM (Teaching Learning Materials) to make learning easy and fun for her. Kinjal showed great enthusiasm and took an active interest in all activities, identifying numbers, counting, and basic operations like addition and subtraction. Visual aids, interactive games, story sessions, and other engaging tools were utilized to make learning fun and impactful. The feedback from her parents was very positive, indicating their satisfaction with her progress.

  • Progress and Achievements:
  • She was able to work with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems. She also started writing small essays and improving her oral and written number recognition. She learned to write words with conjunctions, form sentences, recognize even and odd numbers, and translate Gujarati words into English. Additionally, she was able to confidently present herself without fear, and express her thoughts on topics like humanity towards animals, the importance of trees, and more.

Finally, a post-assessment was conducted, and it was clear that Kinjal had learned and improved significantly.Regular meetings with Kinjal’s parents have been instrumental in tracking her progress and keeping them involved in her learning journey. Feedback from the parents indicates a noticeable improvement in her confidence and overall interest in academics. This progress wouldn’t have been possible without the collaborative efforts of the centre, her family, and Kinjal’s own determination.

  • Message of Gratitude:
  • The success we see in Kinjal today is a testament to the power of consistent effort, innovative teaching methods, and a supportive environment. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has contributed to this journey, especially Kinjal’s family for their trust and cooperation.
